Integral Care®

Trademark of the Hospital Moinhos de Vento, Integral Care® is a service system that emphasizes the complete satisfaction of the patient through customized assistance at all levels of the human being. Multi-professional actions permeate the whole therapeutic process, bringing respect, cordiality, responsibility and ethics into interpersonal relationships. Integral and personalized care is carried out by one professional, during his work-term, from hospital admission to discharge.
Patient as nucleus, staff as cell

“The multidisciplinary staff must be sensitive to the patient’s tensions, fears and hopes. The patient must be seen like a live book, with awareness for his feelings and emotional disposition. This is a hard learning process, though vital for a human conduct in attendance of the ill”

Structure

In 1927, the institution built the facility that nowadays shelters the Patient Attendance Service, bureau, collaborators’ and emergency services’ dining hall, Chest Pain Unit and Hemotherapy. From the first floor up we’ll find the inpatient units and intensive care centers, among other services of the Hospital.
In 1979, Hospital Moinhos de Vento opened the Centro Clínico Ramiro. Here we’ll find the Rehabilitation Center, the Image Center, medical offices, laboratories and services such as Nuclear Medicine, Check Up, Human Reproduction Center “Gerar”, Breast Center Moinhos, Digestive Mobility Center, Movement Disturbs Center and others.

Between the Main Hospital Block and the “Centro Clínico Ramiro”, next to the wood, lies the building that shelters the Institute of Education and Research (IEP) and the Magnetic Resonance Service.

Aligning state-of-the-art technological resources with a qualified team of doctors, dental surgeons and emnployees, the institution prepares itself for the future amplifying its service facilities. Beyond the already named structures, the Hospital Moinhos de Vento opened, in October 2004, the “Centro Clínico Tiradentes” and the “Edifício-Garagem” (Garage Building). In November of the same year, it opened the “Espaço de Saúde e Bem-Estar” (Health and Wellness Space) at Shopping Center Iguatemi, consolidating its aim of promoting health and quality of life.

Excellence in Practice

Aiming at excellent clinical results, the Hospital Moinhos de Vento united two projects involving the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), from the USA, and the “Associação Nacional de Hospitais Privados” (ANAHP), from Brazil, in a campaign for Improvement of Quality in Health, approved by several Medical Societies and International Organizations.
This initiative, based on strategic planning, intends to save more lives and consolidate routines and assistance standards, providing more security to the patients through the following programs:

– Providing therapies based on evidence in handling Acute Myocardial Arrest
– Providing therapies based on evidence in handling Cerebral Hemorrhage
Preventing adverse events related to medication
– Providing a System of Fast Response
– Prevention of Central Catheter Infection
– Prevention of Surgery Site Infection
– Prevention of Pneumonia associated with Mechanical Ventilation
– Prevention of Ulcers
– Prevention of Falls
– Offer Therapies Based on Evidence in the Management of Acute Myocardial Infarction

International Quality

The special characteristic of the Hospital Moinhos de Vento is the quality of patient care, internationally acknowledged through the accreditation of the Joint Commission International (JCI).

Hospital Moinhos de Vento was granted the International Hospital Accreditation in 2002, 2005, given by the Joint Commission International, for the excellence in assistance and the commitment with quality. The Hospital is preparing to receive it again in 2008.

Except for the USA, little more than 50 institutions were accredited worldwide since 1998. In Brazil, nineteen health services or hospitals have already been accredited by the JCI, with the Hospital Moinhos de Vento being the only one in the south region.

In 2007, at the celebration of the 80 years of the Hospital Moinhos de Vento, we have retaken the path towards international acknowledgement. This can already be seen every day at the Hospital Moinhos de Vento Association, through the commitment of each employee with the search for excellence in working processes.

The Hospital Moinhos de Vento is continuously revising processes, always using the positive results of Integral Care as reference: to meet the needs of patients and relatives completely, on the physical level as much as on the spiritual. To improve our Quality Management Method, we introduced the Auditing Program for Quality Improvement, which consists of quarterly auditing at the Basic Management Units performed by employees that are trained in the “Programa Gaúcho de Qualidade e Produtividade” (Quality and Productivity Program).

To ask for accreditation is a sign of humbleness in a continuous learning process. The Hospital Moinhos de Vento believes that its processes must always be kept up to date, searching for excellence in patient care.
